When Marnie Was There PosterIf you’er wanting to get early ownership of When Marnie Was There on DVD and Blu-ray but you don’t want to import from Japan, Intercontinental Video out of Hong Kong has now set their release for the latest Studio Ghibli film. Set for release on May 27th, 2015, it’ll have the original Japanese language track and the new Cantonese dub while including English, Traditional Chinese and Japanese subtitles. The Blu-ray is priced at about $30 and the DVD at $17 at today’s currency exchange rate.

Madman Entertainment is serving as Distributor for this in Australia and they’re releasing it in an interesting way there with a two week engagement running there beginning on May 14th through the 27th and they’re doing it in two different versions so fans can check it out in its original Japanese or with the new English language cast. GKIDS has the North American rights to the series with their home video plans to be revealed later after the slow but steady theatrical roll out.

Based on the novel by Joan G. Robinson, When Marnie WasThere is the newest film from Studio Ghibli, and the second feature film by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, the director of The Secret World of Arrietty.

Plot concept: Sent from her foster home in the city one summer to a sleepy town by the sea in Hokkaido, Anna dreams her days away among the marshes. She believes she’s outside the invisible magic circle to which most people belong – and shuts herself off from everyone around her, wearing her “ordinary face.” Anna never expected to meet a friend like Marnie, who does not judge Anna for being just what she is. But no sooner has Anna learned the loveliness of friendship than she begins to wonder about her newfound friend…
