What They Say
Swept into Helmina’s consciousness, Noh-A witnesses the young Helmina, heir to Devildom–her longing for freedom and the betrayal that gives rise to Solomon’s reign of terror. Helmina’s strength alone was not enough to defeat the mad king, but in Noh-A’s hands, the power of the Witch of the North and the mirror image combine to transform the fearful girl into a fearsome opponent. With Jack Frost at her side, can Noh-A defeat the cruel King Solomon when he threatens to destroy Amityville for good?! The battle rages on in the final volume of Jack Frost!!
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
The long flashback to kick off this last volume is a great setup for the final fight between Helmina and Solomon. In the past, Helmina wanted Solomon to save her from her Demon King father’s world. Solomon wanted her for his wife, so he had no problem killing the Demon King and taking his thrown. That enamored Solomon to Helmina’s crazy little sister, but turned Helmina against him forever. Thus, she has waited a long time for this final winner-takes-all battle with Solomon and her sister.
Only problem is that Helmina has been greatly weakened from the battle so far, and she believes the only way to guarantee Solomon’s defeat is if she passes her Witch of the North District title and powers to Noh-A. Helmina will die, but she believes the witch’s power combined with Noh-A’s power as the Mirror Image will be just enough to defeat Solomon one final time.
With the transfer of power complete, Noh-A is able to super charge the power and abilities of her allies and begin to turn the tide against Solomon’s demon army. Although, the excitement of their seemingly inevitable victory over the demons is short-lived when Solomon steps in to fight directly with Noh-A and Jack Frost. Who will survive and what will come of Amityville when the dust is allowed to settle? Will Helmina’s sacrifice be for naught?
In Summary.
This series had some rough storytelling and art in the early volumes, but this final volume proves to be a good wrap up of most of the loose threads. The ending is also the type that I prefer; some characters survive and some make sacrifices. I also very much enjoyed the final flashback explaining how Solomon originally gained his power and those early dynamics between Helmina, her sister, and Solomon and their weird love/hate/obsessed triangle.
Looking back on the entire series, it has actually been cool to see the author grow and transform from confusing transition scenes and awkward storytelling at times, to a final coherent and enjoyable ending to the story. I would like to read Jinho Ko’s next series to see if it gets off to a much stronger beginning and what lessons the author might have learned from Jack Frost.

Did not-ah and jack get together? That’s honestly all I want to know happened, if they became a couple and kissed?
