Usagi is captured by the enemy, while her closest companions can only stand by and stare.

Have I mentioned that this was my least favorite arc of Sailor Moon next to the circus one? Do you want to guess why that might be on both counts? Chibi-usa is revealed to be 900 years old in a 6 year old’s body. All of her behavior before this could have been understandable behavior for a real six year old. For a 900 year old though, it’s agonizingly stupid and she’s deserving of the disgust I feel for her useless eternal childhood. (This is why I was so frustrated in early episodes in this arc, I knew this and didn’t want to jump ahead.) She knew Sailor Moon was her mother, played the innocent act and tricked everyone. Back in her time her inability to grow up and inherit the power she was meant to wield lead her to taking the Silver Crystal at the worst possible time. All because some punk rich boys teased her. Yup kid, it’s all your fault.

Usagi suddenly realizes that she’s trapped in the same place her friends were taken, and for the first time in ages we see Ami, Rei, and Makoto again. They wake up, realize they’re screwed, and are knocked out again. Our heroes ladies and gentlemen! Usagi, meanwhile, wakes up in a new dress which is actually nicer than her princess/queen outfit. Demande has nice taste in women’s clothes, despite being a terrorist. Usagi realizes that she can’t transform and is at the mercy of Demander, who steals a kiss and wanders off after gloating for a bit. Classic overly confident supervillain move, but Usagi is so powerless and incompetent who can blame him?

Jealousy is the name of the game here. Everyone seems to want what they can’t have. For Demande it’s the earth, for Pluto it’s King Endymion, and for Chibi-usa, well… I think she wants her dad too. It’s hard to say. She eventually wanders off in to the mists of time in a funk, leaving her time key behind. At the edge of time who does she happen to run in to but Wiseman, who makes her an offer she can’t refuse.

In Summary:
The pink spore…. ahem, sorry, Chibi-usa reveals all in her quiet desperation. The eternal child finds a pit of self absorbed pity so deep it’s singlehandedly responsible for plunging the world into the apocalypse. Usagi and Mamoru are the worst parents ever. Usagi herself is captured by her worst enemy and taken hostage, and Mamoru and Minako can’t do a damn thing to stop or fix any of this. Score twenty for team Dark Moon. At least the episode direction is holding up to an average standard which isn’t laughably terrible at the moment. The one saving grace of having to put up with the pink destroyer of worlds.

  1. In my opinion, Chibiusa wasn’t just “stuck” in a 6-years old body, but also with a 6-years old mentality and maturity, That explains better her behavior.

  2. You’re right. Regardless of her being over 900 years old she still has the mentality of a 6/7/8 year old (still not sure how old she’s supposed to be).
