Jared Leto Previewed As The Joker For ‘Suicide Squad’

2 min read

Let’s just get right to it.

Jared Leto as the Joker

Suicide Squad director David Ayer tweeted the first full visual preview of Jared Leto as the Joker last night and the internet collectively lost its shit.

Which is to be expected. Nobody can top what Heath Ledger did. Though before him nobody could top Jack Nicholson. And before that there was a lot of love for Cesar Romero from the Batman TV series.

With this incarnation, it’s certainly setting itself as different – yet familiar, at least for those reading the current comics from Snyder and Capullo where the character has definitely upped the crazy factor. What’s plainly true is that with 75 years worth of Joker material out there, there’s countless interpretations and this is just one new one. And one that really sets the tone for the psychotic, which I suspect will be played brilliantly when we get to see him in action with the physical tics, dialogue accents and more.

Frankly, I’m already waiting to see him go up against Ben Affleck’s Batman. It’s going to be a very different, but again familiar, dynamic between those two as we’ll see echoes of Ledger and Bale taken to different areas. Which is how it should be.

Announced for an August 5th, 2016 released, Suicide Squad is being helmed by Fury director David Ayer. The film is set to star Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, someone as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Plot concept: A group of supervillains are brought together to tackle high-risk black ops missions for the government.
