Ex Machina made its debut in the UK back on January 23rd, 2015 and now it’s starting to roll out more in limited engagements around North America, albeit with minimal advertising. In an effort to gain a bit more attention, the second trailer has now arrived for the film. The feature comes from Alex Garland, who wrote both 28 Days Later and Sunshine, two movies that still stick strongly with me. He’s making the transition from screenwriter to director with Ex Machina. The project stars Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander. Garland wrote the screenplay for it as well. The film was budgeted at $15 million and was filmed in the UK for DNA Films.
Plot concept: Caleb, a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl.
