Sofia Boutella Boards Upcoming ‘Star Trek’ Film

2 min read

Sofia BoutellaThings are going to get moving soon on the third Star Trek film as part of the rebooted line of features and some new casting has arrived for it. The film recently brought on board Justin Lin to direct after Roberto Orci departed and Simon Pegg took over the screenwriting for it. While we had heard that filming might have started in March of this year, it’s certainly looking like it’ll be soon one way or another if they want to hit their date.

The latest news to surface is that Sofia Boutella has joined the project and is going to be in a leading role with it. Boutella was seen in this year’s Kingsman: The Secret Service as the villainess where her physical movement skills made the role come to life in a great way. But beyond that, there’s still no news about other casting, though we’ve heard that Idris Elba was approached as was Bryan Cranston.

Directed by Justin Lin, the film is scheduled for a July 8th, 2016 release date. It will star Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana and Sofia Boutella.
