FUNimation Acquires ‘Ghost in the Shell: Arise – Alternative Architecture’ For Spring 2015 Anime Season

Ghost in the Shell Arise - Alternative ArchitectureSince FUNimation has done the original OVAs for what’s been turned into this series, it’s no surprise that they’ve picked up the rights for Ghost in the Shell: Arise – Alternative Architecture. As the series debuted on April 5th in Japan with an already seen episode that’s been released here, FUNimation is catching up quickly with it now available on their service and new episodes will stream on Sundays at 10am ET for viewers.

The main cast from that are reprising their roles here and the series is directed by Kise Kazuchika, who is also doing the character designs for it. Production I.G. will be animating and it’s planned for a ten episode run. The run will be reworking the OVAs across the first eight episodes with some new material being brought on and there will be two episodes that are made up of original material. All of it will serve to bridge to the new movie out this coming summer.

Plot concept: The Ghost in the Shell: Arise OVA sequence has been rebuilt into eight TV-length episodes and extended with two new broadcast exclusive episodes to create Ghost in the Shell: Arise ­ Alternative Architecture! In this highly anticipated prequel set in the year after the fourth World War, cyborg and hacker Motoko Kusanagi finds herself wrapped up in the investigation of a devastating bombing. But she¹s not the only one looking for answers‹as she delves deeper into the mystery of who is behind the attack, a specialized team unlike any before begins to take shape.
