With Kodansha Comics having promised recently that they’d be revealing their plans for the delayed Vinland Saga manga at Anime Boston, it looks like the necessity of the retail world has impacted those plans to a degree. The series now has some updates to it via Amazon, both in the US And UK, that gives us an idea of what’s happening. According to the solicitations at hand, we’ll thankfully still be seeing this release coming out. The fifth volume of the series arrived in October 2014 in hardcover omnibus form priced at $22.99, and then the sixth volume was removed from retail listings earlier this year. Now the Vinland Saga 6 US release is set for a September 1st, 2015 release date, priced at $22.99 as well, and still listed as a hardcover. It’s expected that even with the delay, these volumes were likely printed before that hit so seeing it in this form isn’t too much of a surprise.
However. The Vinland Saga 7 US release is now set for a December 1st, 2015 release date, priced at $22.99, but it’s being done in softcover/paperback form only. With the book not doing as well as been hoped by the publisher, shifting to a paperback release was the best bet fans could ask for as the other option was likely dropping it outright. This release information is further confirmed by the Vinland Saga 7 UK release, which list a December release month and paperback status as well.
This should be considered tentative until we hear from the publisher, but based on how this side of the business works, we’re expecting this to be the reality of it.
If you’ve been buying, will you continue on with it if it shifts to paperback from hardcover?
