FUNimation continues to build up piece by piece their spring 2015 simulcast plans and one show that we knew was getting overseas distribution but didn’t know who through was Ninja Slayer. The distributor has now announced that they’ve pickde up the new studio Trigger series for both the streaming and home video rights. Streaming plans for the launch date and time aren’t decided yet. The Japanese debut will be streamed on April 16th via Niconico with plans for a broadcast TV debut sometime in 2016.
The cast includes Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ninja Slayer, Sho Hayami as Fujio Katakura/Dark Ninja, Chiwa Saito as Nancy Lee, Sora Amamiya as Koki Yamamoto, Risa Taneda as Dragon Yukano, Masane Tsukayama as Laomoto Khan, Tesshô Genda as Clone Yakuza and Goblin as the Narrator.
Akira Amemiya will be handling the direction for the series. Amemiya has a good line of credits to hits name over the years, having started as a key animator that has moved up to episode director status for a number of series, including some fun episodes of Kill la Kill while also serving as series director for Inferno Cop. Yu Sato is slated to handle the scripts while character designs come from Hiroyuki Imaishi and Yusuke Yoshigaki. Studio Trigger is behind the animation itself.
Plot concept: Ninjas. Karate. Sushi. A former salaryman whose family was killed by evil ninjas, Ninja Slayer cheats death and casts away his past to embrace the dark, mystical NINJA SOUL, a mysterious spirit that grants him great power in his quest for revenge.
