Hitsugi Amachi: There probably isn’t any other way they could have ended things (the anime has pretty much caught up with Touno’s light novels). I feel let down only to the extent that I want to know what happens next…but that’s not yet written for the most part. So, the wait begins until I can see/read more of the story.

Jun Kuga: The good news is that the Light Novels are getting released from next month onwards, so we should be able to get to at least read the continuation.

The episode did seem to be wrapping up most loose ends, so I doubt we’ll have a new season announcement any time soon, with Crusty’s location discovered, and a new goal to work towards, and even Minami seemingly moving in the right direction. I’m happy with what we got, and anything more would be a huge bonus, but it wont devalue what we have got as it doesn’t leave things too open.

bctaris: Ah, that was nice. I’m well satisfied with that ending. It managed to loosely wrap up a couple questions (almost like a gag, in Crusty’s case, I thought) and to deftly pivot the answer to the biggest questions by simply recasting them. I’ll respect that. “How do we settle the question of them going home with one episode left? Change the question!” I’m going to guess it’s probably similar to Touno’s own process with the novels, and that’s perfectly fine.

Again, I’m satisfied. There’s Crusty (with the twitching arm: “The weird stuff is the game!”). There’s Kanami, used quite well, I thought, as the one to refocus the anxiety Shiroe and others were having. (She’s an intriguing piece of the writing. We’ve barely seen her in the show proper but her character was setup well enough from nearly the beginning of the show, as almost a piece of the mythology of it, that we feel like we know her as well as Shiroe. Her blurting out the third path for them to take, to bridge the worlds together, was so Kanami. It was great.) There’s the nod to Minami having to adapt to the rules of the world as it is. The credit roll montage was, even so simply, nice in the case of a show like this, to remind me that a lot of meaningful stuff did happen. The first season had the rush of the introduction and establishment of this world and characters, and better animation to to help it go down, but as far as the story and writing went, I thought this season was every bit as fun and intriguing to watch.

I wouldn’t have thought of this “answer” for the ending, as I’ve not guessed quite a lot in this show, but I’m happy with it perhaps mostly because I didn’t think of it. It’s oddly much more settled an ending than the first season received (intentionally, perhaps, with a second season on the way). I sure would like more of it, anime-wise, of course. But that may be the firmest indication that that is not too likely, sadly. I suppose I’ll get to the LNs at some point, more because I’m curious about Touno’s original process than the story right now.

GingaDaiuhcuu: I would’ve been really surprised if this season ended with an announcement of another one as well. At that point I’d expect the third season to just be picture dramas. Obviously I was a lot less taken with the second season than the first, but Log Horizon was still pretty good overall.

Buckeye: Overall, this season is a step down from the first. There’s a dropoff in the animation quality as Deen’s version just couldn’t capture the essence of this show the way Satelight does with the first season, and the story’s structure is just badly laid out. I still enjoyed the episodes like the first season, but it seems to me that the show was spending too much time with the wrong stuff. In particular, too much time was spent with the part where Shiroe was off on a raid with Akatsuki staying home, while it spends a good amount of time with stuff that’s irrelevant to the plot. The pacing just was too slow as I had to wait for things to happen. But despite the problem with the show’s structure, the episodes are still enjoyable on its individual merits much like with the first season.
