Himari has completely lost control, and gone so far as to attack Yuuto’s school and their friends. It is only a spiritual attack that has knocked everyone unconscious, but if something doesn’t change soon, Himari might suck the student’s life forces!

Yuuto wasn’t at school that day because he was searching for Himari. Before he can get to his school and save everyone, he is stopped by the other Demon Slayer clans. They are ready to put Himari down like any other Ayakashi, and they are willing to stop Yuuto to do it. In a last bid to save Himari’s life and bring her back from madness, Yuuto challenges the leader of all the clans, Aiji. Yuuto couldn’t defeat Aiji in his wildest dreams, but Aiji is a gambling man and agrees to step aside and allow Yuuto to go to Himari if he can hit him one time in a battle.

After an interesting power play between the two, Yuuto is allowed to enter the spiritual barrier surrounding his school. Everything seems normal inside, but he quickly discovers that Himari has control of the space and can manipulate it as she sees fit.

Then, Yuuto’s spirit finds his way into Himari’s subconscious. Himari’s physical form is being controlled by her evil half, but her subconscious is the same Himari that Yuuto has known and cared for over the last year of their life together. Himari is tired and long past the point of having the strength to fight her evil half. She begs Yuuto to leave her while he still can, before her evil half also takes control of her subconscious. It is a touching scene as they remember their time together when Yuuto was a child. But even more shocking, is Himari’s revelation that she has killed a human before and maybe all Ayakashi are inherently evil. Thus, Himari begs Yuuto to kill her physical form and let her finally rest.

How will Yuuto decide to end his time with Himari?

In Summary
It can be difficult to see a series come to an end; however, it can also be difficult to see a series drag on too long. Twelve volumes is a decent run for Omamori Himari, and while I enjoyed it, I’m also glad to see it come to an end. I really think things could have moved at a faster pace and probably wrapped up in about nine volumes, but oh well.

Like all harem stories, the series has two choices in the end; the protagonist ends up with one or none of the women. It can be a tough decision, and while I like seeing the guy end up with one girl like Love Hina, sometimes I can’t decide and like to see things end as they have always been with everyone living together.

You will have to read this last volume to see how this harem ends, but as a series I would probably give it a B-.
