It’s definitely interesting to watch how various properties are released across different regions, both in terms of what audiences will want to get for shows but also the packaging. With Sentai Filmworks releasing Haikyu!! in North America, we now see IDP Home Video in France getting ready to release the full series and OVA on July 1st, 2015 and they’re using the same cover artwork as we’re getting here. What’s interseting is that they’re getting a DVD/BD Limited Edition release that will come with an artbook and a series of postcards, though limited to just a thousand copies, priced at 69.95 euros. No visuals of those pack-in materials have surfaced yet.
The Shonen Jump series has been running since 2012 and has fourteen volumes to its name so far and we had a two season series last past spring and summer. An OAD is also in the works and a second season is coming as well. Crunchyroll simulcast the series last year and Sentai Filmworks picked up the home video and additional streaming rights to it.
The series comes from manga creator Haruichi Furudate and is directed by Susumu Mitsunaka (Cuticle Detective Inaba, Bunny Drop) with series composition by Taku Kishimoto (Silver Spoon, Tales from Earthsea), character designs by Takahiro Kishida (BTOOOM!, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) and animation production by Production I.G (Ghost Hound, Kuroko’s Basketball).
Plot concept: Ever since Shoyo saw a short-statured volleyball pro dominate in a National Championship, he’s been determined to become the next big thing in High School Volleyball. Unfortunately, he’s barely played the game. The only time he was able to play in junior high, his team was defeated in their first and only match against a team lead by up-and-coming setter Tobio. Now in high school, Shoyo finally has a chance to join a real team. The catch is: he must learn to play on a team with his old nemesis.
