Animatsu has picked up another release that will arrive this year for UK audiences that we’re glad to see getting a bit more attention is that of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water. The classic Gainax series has been acquired for the UK region with both DVD and Blu-ray rights and they’re looking at a June 1st release. It’s unclear as to what form it will take, but we’re suspecting that it’ll be one oversized box set for each format, which will be similar to the 2014 release from Sentai Filmworks for North America.

Siren Visual picked up the Australian/New Zealand rights for the series back in September and that region’s release is currently for DVD only with eight discs as a complete series release. They’re still talking about a Blu-ray set as a possibility, but they won’t know until later whether they can.

If you haven’t seen the series before, check out our Nadia – The Secret Of Blue Water Complete Collection Blu-ray Anime Review by me as well as Josh Begley’s Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water TV Complete Collection Anime DVD Review.

Plot concept: It’s the end of the 19th century and a nerdy yet courageous young inventor crosses paths with an enigmatic young girl who carries with her an ancient jewel. Cue a slapstick villainous trio and a madman hell-bent on stealing the jewel and unraveling the mysteries of the Blue Water, restoring the Atlantean Empire and leading the world into the new century. Based on Jules Verne’s ’20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’, scored by Shiro Sagisu (who also worked on Neon Genesis Evangelion) and with eye-popping animation from the legendary GAINAX studios; we are very pleased to present this 90′s classic for the first time in Australia!
