Yurikuma Arashi | Episode 8 | TFP Review
EmperorBrandon: Suddenly Yuriika backstory. Wasn’t expecting it to come so quickly and seemingly thoroughly, but yeah, she is as about as evil as I was expecting. I had focused on “Yuri” being in her name as possibly signifying she’s a bear (and of course she is: completely confirmed now), but the “Hako” in her name is really important too. She wants to box things up to keep them pure and unsullied. Completely unrelated to Yurikuma, but there was something recently that again reminded me how really irritated I am with the more extreme internet otaku’s obsession with “purity” in their fandom of girls. I have to wonder if Ikuhara is criticizing that culture (I’d like to think he is, at least). Anyway, I wonder about Yuriika’s “him”. Is he related to Kaoru? Kind of looked like her to me…
It seemed like things weren’t going to go how Yuriika wanted it at first, as Ginko rather bravely tried to get her feelings across to Kureha and was seeming to be successful at it. Turns out Lulu is the one to throw things off there. Quite the cliffhanger. Very intrigued.
Sensuifu: I had a feeling Yuriika had a “if I can’t have her, no one will” mindset behind her but wasn’t sure it’d turn out as sinister as it did. Yuriika being psychotically obsessed and getting vengeance against her own lover unfortunately involves Ginko being caught in the crossfire. I just wonder if Sumika really asked Ginko to eat her and did it for the same principle that the bears sacrifice their own lovers- that being a martyr is ultimately a symbol of their true love.
To either side it seems that there’s no greater love then to give oneself up as a sacrifice, if it has to come to that. Sumika letting herself die for the sake of Kureha’s love was her way of showing her devotion to Kureha. Ginko likely already knows this, but Lulu doesn’t. With Lulu creating even more turmoil for Kureha, it should be interesting to see how Yuriika reacts to her every wish. Should be very entertaining to see where this will lead up to since Ginko’s situation with Sumika had significance to reaffirming/reconnecting Kureha’s true love with Ginko. We’ll see if Kureha chose to deny her first true love.
Yamada2: Ginko was Sumika’s what?? Damn cliffhangers. Why did Lulu come and tell Kureha something which could potentially put Ginko in danger?
Kureha found out that the pendant Ginko has is her mother’s. Took her long enough. Ginko has had that pendant since the beginning and hasn’t had it covered. And we have Yurika trying to brainwash Kureha and trying to make her believe that Ginko betrayed Kureha and ate Reia. Yurika’s back story was all boxed up. The first human with a Y chromosome was shown here, and he was wearing high heels. They show one guy and they have to make him feminine too. Guess they wanted to keep it a girls only anime so they had to make the “him” look like a “her”.
So Yurika is just jealous. Way too jealous for her own good. Her mindset is like “if I lost someone, you should too”. Shabadadoo and friends were surprised when she gave up on love instead of boxes. I wonder if Ginko got shot or not. It’ll be interesting to see what Kureha’s reaction will be if she finds out that Yurika is a bear too. Would make for one hell of a Kuma shock.
This anime is getting interesting. I was about to drop it after 4 episodes but I continued. There are the usual odd episodes where I have no idea what the hell is going on, but now I’m understanding a lot of what’s going on. Yuri Kuma Arashi has piqued my interest to be honest.
