Star Wars Thursday: Disney Padawan Edition

Welcome back to Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of the wonderful and often wacky world of a galaxy far, far away.

This week I’ve been working on catching up with Star Wars Rebels. It’s a wonderful show, filled with great new characters and fun little glimpses at old favorites. I’ve heard a lot of people compare the Padawan Ezra to Aladdin, and I can definitely see the resemblance. Following this train of thought, I decided to consider which Disney characters could benefit from a little bit of Jedi training. Which ones would have been whisked away to a Jedi Temple if they lived in a galaxy far, far away?

Potential Jedi:

Snow White

While DeviantArtist Josephb222 sees Snow White’s dark side, I think she’d have made an excellent Jedi. In the Disney movie she seems passive, but hear me out. Snow can communicate with animals — that is clearly some Force connection going on there. Her constant state of calm would make it much easier for her to learn to dive into the meditative state needed to become one with the Force. Her kind and gentle voice would cause those around to to underestimate her true power. I’m sure if the Jedi Counsel found her soon enough to remove her from the abusive home in which she spent her early days, she’d be levitating apples and swinging a lightsaber with the best of them in no time.

Cinderella

I had no intention of including Cinderella in this list until I started doing my research for this post. Then I stumbled upon a discussion thread that made a pretty strong case for Cinderella’s stepmother making an excellent, “Mr. Miyagi” style trainer. My favorite little bit of the back-and-forth banter includes this gem:

“At the end of your training, she wishes you well and sees you off in an oddly-shaped repulsorcraft, her “daughters” waving animatedly. Her last gift to you was a finely carved lightsaber handle fashioned from your old broom, the one you used nearly every day to sweep some impossible-to-reach location.”

With all the late nights of housework they make her do, she certainly would have the high levels of physical stamina required of all Jedi!

Belle

Courageous, intelligent, able to see below the surface to the goodness within a person. This is a no-brainer. I would hope that Jedi training would also help Belle learn to occasionally doubt someone’s motives so that she isn’t taken in by the beasts in the world that do NOT have a heart of gold. Let’s be completely honest, though, there’s no way Belle would want to work anywhere else after she discovers the Jedi Archives. Her colleagues will have to remind her to pull her nose out of all the virtual books often enough to eat.

Aladdin

Since considering Ezra’s likeness to Aladdin is what started this whole train of thought, I should include the “street rat” in this discussion. He’s coordinated enough to jump and dodge and climb through the city to avoid pursuit. He can catch that loaf of bread even with his face covered with clothing. It’s hardly a leap to picture him wearing a helmet with the blast shield down, using the Force to detect incoming energy bolts.

Who else do you think would make an excellent candidate for Jedi training?
Until next week – may the Force be with you!
