Anime Snapshots Roundup For Week Of February 13th, 2015

3 min read

A slightly unusual instalment of TWIA this week, perhaps, and I blame the amount of shows I’ve dropped so far. The upside of watching frankly bad shows us that they’re a great source of screenshots to poke fun at – but as the season goes on and the bad shows fall by the wayside, we get left the the good stuff – which I’m often too busy watching to remember to hit Shift-S at. Unless they go down the pure comedy route, which fortunately some of this week’s shows did. I was sitting on Friday evening with all of two screenshots in the fodder folder, but the column has been rescued by some of the week’s later shows. And with that explanation out of the way, it’s onto the good stuff, starting with Assassination Classroom

You have to give her bonus points for taking the direct approach. Curiously, this week brings Class E’s rather ‘unique’ status to the fore a little, and makes he want to take a clue-by-four to everyone involved in the “give people someone to look down on and they’ll feel better about themselves” approach. If only it weren’t so familiar from certain aspects of the Real World. Next up, Death Parade, which outdid itself this week:

This snip from the OP tell me that at least one of this week’s visitors is going to be with us for a while. Mayu being to Ginti what the Dark Haired Woman is to Decim, perhaps (namely, a human moderating influence)? Ginti could certainly use one, as he seems to enjoy his arbiter role a little too much.

And at this point, she’d be able to die happy. If only she wasn’t, y’know, already dead.

I couldn’t breathe either at this point. From laughing. Best game of Twister ever. This show has been consistently good from the start, but this was easily the best episode so far – as much for showing that Decim’s bar and way of doing things isn’t the sole way that the orbiters so things, and that the arbiters themselves have very different attitudes to their work. Also in the comedy gold category this week was Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, with Joestar breaking his already-high “OH MY GOD!”s-per-episode count.

Although using it to respond to a woman you think is hitting on you may be pushing it a bit.

Who’s more menacing – the woman with great legs, or the man in the ladies’ room checking under cubicle doors? I’m voting for the latter.

Getting meta on me now. But you can’t deny it’s a fair point. Even Joestar had bathroom trouble this week… Moving on, we have Kantai Collection:

Sadly I’m 3D, or I’d kick arse in that contest.

With a flame-thrower!? Results as expected, frankly. Next up: Go! Princess Precure

Weeding the gardens as punishment? Oh, the hours I spent doing that a boarding school myself. I still feel the pain. And other punishment-related pain, but moving on…

Bah. I’m waiting for the 3rd Precure, myself. From the mere glimpses we’ve had of her so far, I like her already. Next, the show shaping up to be surprisingly not the worst of the season so far, Saekano:

When inspiration strikes, and absolutely not the look of impending yandere hell. That looks like this

Looking forward to how that works in the show’s VN. If it happens – after all, production can be hell. See Shirobako for proof of that…

Just me expecting yer man’s excuses here to start with “funny story”? No?

I suspect Studio Titanic did contract work for Lost Universe. Anyone who’s seen that show will know the shots of which I speak. Finally, new show on the block Comic Psychosomatic Medicine.

Aaaaand we’re done with Comic Psychosomatic Medicine. See you next week…
