The Review:
Content:
Surely, this will be the hit of the season. The short episode begins with the camera zooming in on a woman’s buxom in order to establish how high-brow this show is. We then cut away to Ryou and Asuna introducing themselves to us, the viewers. It takes less than 60 seconds for them to break the fourth wall. Moving along, Asuna informs us that it is just them and us in their clinic. Most likely, the characters are plotting our murder! That or they’ll drone on and on about erectile dysfunction. I’m putting my money on the former though. Asuna makes a joke about how one in five power rangers (I do not care enough to learn the real name for them) is likely depressed. One hundred dry jokes later, Asuna and Ryou thank us for listening to them and assure us they will hold us hostage for five more minutes next week.

In summary:
In all honesty, this episode was not as bad as I made it out to be. If the promotional material is accurate, some interesting things are to come at some point down the line too. As far as edutainment goes, they managed to be both entertaining without coming across as insensitive to the subject matter and informative so, at least in my mind, they succeeded in what they set out to do. For those curious, it is only 5 minutes long so sampling it at least is recommended.

  1. It might’ve been the massive amount of sake in my system, but the dry humor, puns, and onslaught of other types jokes crammed into a 5-minute won me over completely. And the self-mockery of the OP… Well, I’m always one for self-deprecation.

Great catch on the mention of balance between humor and sensitivity, by the way.
