2 min read

Shonen Magazine RWith more information to come on February 20th, the first round of news has landed in regards to the new Kodansha magazine beginning in April with Shonen Magazine R. The new magazine is bringing in some interesting talents to work on it and that means some fresh new series to check out with some heightened interest. The first five works have now formally been announced through the official site for the magazine.

Title: Ivory Dark
Author: Ryū Mizunagi

Mizunagi is currently working on Witchcraft Works as well, which is published in the US by Vertical.

Title: Kyokō Suiri
Original Creator: Kyou Shirodaira
Artist: Midori Katazaka

Translated as Fictional Reasoning, the series is based on Shirodaira’s mystery novel of the same name. Shirodaira is fairly well known overseas for his work on Blast of Tempest and Spiral: Bond of Reasoning, both of which have had anime adaptations. Katazaka makes their debut with this adaptation.

Title: Q.E.D. iff -Shōmei Shūryō-
Author: Motohiro Katou

Katou isn’t as well known overseas, but he’s definitely got fans in Japan as this Q.E.D. series has been running since 1997 and has forty-nine volumes to its name so far, as well as a 10 episode drama produced back in 2009. With it being in this new magazine (it’s fourth magazine since serialization began), it offers a built in audience right from the start.

Title: Yokuoni
Author: Mitabi Irohara

Translating as Greed Demon, this is Irohara’s third work after the 2010 piece Otona to Kodomo no Merry Christmas and the 2012 drama Rain Train, both of which look to be one-shots.

Title: Majime-kei Kuzu no Nichijō
Author: Dai Nanki

This series, which translates as Ordinary Days of Serious-type Trash, is an interesting pickup for it as it runs as a webmanga at the moment and is getting the bump to print, which is certainly a good sign for all involved.
