Discotek Media has struck a deal with Crunchyroll to work on several of the properties that they have both streaming and home video rights for, but no direct interest in producing the home video versions themselves. This will solidify the relationship between the two companies, giving Discotek Media a platform for more of their shows and for Discotek Media to be able to bring out some more recent series to home video.
The first one they’ve announced is the first season of Free! Iwatobi Swim Club. No release date is set yet, but the DVD release will be the Japanese language version with English subtitles.
“There may be an English dubbed version released in the future after this subtitled edition is out. No details yet on the possible dubbed version or who will release it yet.”
FUNimation has the rights for the second season with it coming out this year on bilingual DVD/BD combo form.
Plot concept: Nanase Haruka loved to be in the water – loved swimming. In elementary school, Nanase Haruka, Tachibana Makoto, Matsuoka Rin, and Hazuki Nagisa attended the same swimming class together. Time passed, and as Haruka was living an uneventful high school life, he suddenly encountered Rin again. Rin challenged Haruka to a race and showed him how much stronger he had become. Soon enough, Makoto and Nagisa also rejoined the group, and along with a new classmate, Ryugazaki Rei, they established the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club. less
