This year is going to be the year of .hack for FUNimation as they have several series on tap to roll out in several ways, bringing the previous Bandai Entertainment release into the present day for access. The latest work that they’re dealing with is the twenty-six episode series .hack//roots, which originally aired back in 2006 during the spring and summer from Bee Train. FUNimation hasn’t set a home video release date yet for it but they’re now streaming the first six episodes of it in its original Japanese language form with English subtitles for their EVS members, which you can see here.
Plot concept: In the newest version of the massive online RPG know as “The World,” Haseo and his guild mates search for a legendary item called the Key of the Twilight—but they’re not the only ones looking for it. When a rival guild faces off against Haseo and his teammates, the conflict has deep repercussions both inside and outside the game, and threatens to leave the players forever changed.
