Some tantalizing information has surfaced via The Hollywood Reporter regarding the first of the standalone Star Wars films that has to start gearing up soon for filming in order to make its December 16th, 2016 release date. We previously knew after Godzilla last year that director Gareth Edwards boarded the project and the first draft is complete that was done by Garry Whitta, who has left the project as others are coming on for rewrites and polish. There’s been no details about what the film will be about or what time period it will fit into, but casting is apparently underway as reading and testing was done in the UK last month and has now moved to the US for more work to be done.
According to the report, there are three women that have read for the lead role for the film with Felicity Jones, who just got an Oscar nod for her role in The Theory of Everything, Rooney Mara who came to greater notice with Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Tatiana Maslany, who has gained a lot of fans for her seemingly endless variety of character portrayals on Orphan Black.
