2015 Academy Award Nominees Announced

3 min read

The OscarsThe yearly meaninglessness of the Academy Awards has rolled around again as the nominations for 2015 are here. The reveals and awards are set to be done on February 22nd, 2015. The list this year is pretty much something familiar for most that follow, and for those that don’t it’s important to understand that when it comes to the majority of the categories and the titles nominated, most voters within the Academy don’t even watch the films and a lot of secondary categories aren’t even voted in. With the nominees, this year has the usual kinds of glaring omissions, particularly with The LEGO Movie only getting a soundtrack nod. Most of the movies in the big categories come from the last couple of months, and for some of the films they haven’t even opened in most of the country yet as they only got qualifying runs in December in order to be in contention.

Anime once again gets its representation with The Princess Kaguya getting the nod as most Studio Ghibli movies do at this point. It’s easy to expect that Big Hero 6 will take that category since it’s mostly by name recognition for the voters that will actually check something off on that box.
