Pony Canyon has recently finally set the home video release plans for a show that’s certainly earning it a lot of fans stateside with Garo: The Animation. The series is getting an eight volume release for its twenty-four episode run, providing three episodes per disc. It begins on Februray 18th, 2015 with new volumes following monthly where the DVDs are priced at 7,020 yen each while the Blu-ray releases are priced at 8,100 yen each. Extras for the first volume have been solicited with a clean opening and closing added on disc as well as a voice actor commentary. On the packaging side, the first volume comes with a box to hold the first four volumes as well as a booklet.
The show is being animated by Studio Mappa with Yuichiro Hayashi directing based on scripts by Yasuko Kobayashi and character designs by Toshiyuki Kanno.
The series stars Daisuke Namikawa as Leon Lewis, Kenyuu Horiuchi as Herman Lewis, Katushito Nomura as Alfonso San Valiante, Romi Park as Emma Gusman, Hironobu Kageyama as Zaruba, Takaya Hashi as Mendosa, Mari Tsuchii as Octavia, Mayu Udono as Garum and Natsumi Tada as Esmerelda.
Plot concept: The King’s close advisor implemented a large-scale witch-hunt. The tragic victims of this hunt were not witches, however, but Makai Knights and Makai Priests. One Makai Priestess gave birth to a child while being burned at the stake. That child carried the bloodlines of the Golden Knight. Although he was saved by his father, a Makai Knight himself, the newborn, León Luís, suffered greatly from the unjust death of his mother. And so he vowed to learn the ways of a Makai Knight from his father, Germán Luís, and use his training to seek revenge. During his battles against the demons known as “Horrors,” León must gradually approach reality and accept the truth.
Meanwhile, the powerful former adviser to the King, Mendoza, banished Prince Alfonso and his mother while the king was bedridden. Eager to reclaim his kingdom and save his people, Alfonso embarks on a quest to find the legendary Knight – but destiny holds a twist of fate in store for him.
Together, León and Alfonso begin long and difficult journey filled with many hardships.
