Discotek Media Acquires Toei’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Anime Feature

Little Mermaid (Toei) CoverDiscotek Media has a strong relationship with Toei Animation when it comes to the classics and they’re bringing out another with the acquisition of the 1975 film adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The feature will be done with its original Japanese language track and English subtitles but will also include the previous little heard English language dub as well. The feature was directed by Tomoharu KAtsumata based on the original Hans Christian Andersen story.. Shingo Araki handled the character designs for the feature. Araki has a solid slate of credits to his name, working on a lot of Go Nagai titles over the years as well as serving as the character designer on Lupin the 3rd: Part 3 and Saint Seiya.

Plot concept: Marina, the most beautiful mermaid in the royal Merman family, is curious about the human world. One day, she sees a handsome prince on a boat. Suddenly, a storm comes up, throwing him into the sea. Marina saves her handsome prince and guides him to the shore. Marina falls deeply in love and desperately wants to become a human. Despite the hazards, she is willing to risk it all for love.
