Details are still slow and teasing to be sure when it comes to The Walking Dead companion series that’s in the works. While we know that it’s going to take place in the same time period as the first season of The Walking Dead, it’s now being revealed by TV Line that the series will start off in Los Angeles. For fans of the main show who don’t want another season of the cast wandering through the woods, this is a good thing as it’ll provide a different look at what went on during the early days, a time period that we’ve gotten fleeting glimpses of since Rick Grimes was unconscious during all of it.
Set for the pilot is Cliff Curtis, where he’s taking on the role of Sean Cabrera. The kids, Nick and Ashley Tompkins, has been cast with Alycia Debnam, who was previously in the Galyntine pilot for AMC that was passed on, and Frank Dillane, the son of Stephen Dillane, who plays Stannis on Game of Thrones.
The new series, which is looking to take place roughly in the same time period as the main show but in a different location, is co-created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. To bring it to life, they’ve brought on Adam Davidson, who has been around for quite a few years doing a lot of TV directing, including Hell on Wheels, Fringe and a variety of dramas such as Grey’s Anatomy and Parenthood – and even a dash of comedy such as Community.
Sean Cabrera – A Latino male in his early 40s, Sean is a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.
Cody Cabrera – Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town.
Nancy Tompkins – A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.
Nick Tompkins – Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay at home, too scared to flee.
Ashley Tompkins – Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge.
Andrea Chapman – A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea—yep, another Andrea!—has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.
