TOEI doesn’t always do things in the way that one might expect and such is the case with Chou Denji Robo Combattler V and its Voltes follow-up series. The two series, part of the Romance Super Robot Trilogy, have had their DVD boxes out of print for some time now and TOEI is bringing them back in the form of single volume releases. The shows, which began in 1976, have various installments coming out beginning in December for the first series through April 2015, across five volumes, while Voltes begins in January with just four volumes. The releases look to be similar to what we saw with the box set, with little in the way of extras if anything outside of a booklet.

Plot concept: Thousands of years ago, the people of the planet Campbell decided to leave their planet and seek out new worlds to inhabit. One group, lead by the scientist Oreana, landed on Earth, but was delayed from their mission. In the early 21st century, Oreana’s group reawakens and begins their plan to conquer the Earth. The only effective defense against the Campbellians’ giant biomechanical slave beasts is the super-electromagnetic robot, Combattler V and its pilots.
