With a March 27th, 2015 release date ahead of it, the first trailer has landed for Neill Blomkamp’s film Chappie. After his releases of District 9 and Elysium, Blomkamp is still playing in some familiar ground but is trying to change things up a bit as it’s going for a science fiction comedy of sorts, but one that’s rather grounded in a way where it’ll be interesting to see where the humor comes in. The first trailer has landed, which you can see below.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp, the film stars Sharlto Copley, Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo and Sigourney Weaver.

Plot concept: Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.
