‘DearS’ Anime Begins Hulu Digital Distribution

2 min read

DearS HuluWhile DearS got a pickup for a home video release rescue by Discotek Media after Geneon Entertainment released it quite a few years ago, Discotek doesn’t do much in the way of streaming. Where we get a bit of a hand with that is that Bandai Visual, who is managing the rights to the property, has brought out the show on Hulu. Based on the manga by Peach-Pit, the thirteen episode series animated by Daume that ran back in the summer of 2004 is now available on the Hulu service in both dubbed and subtitled form. Those with a Hulu Plus subscription can watch this show on their TV and mobile devices.

Plot concept: One year ago, a spaceship carrying a squad of aliens landed in Tokyo Bay. With no way to return home, they officially became Japanese citizens and were granted the name “DearS”, meaning “beloved friends”. What’s in store for the human race as it interacts with these warm and friendly creatures? Then one day, Takeya Ikuhara, an average high school student, comes across a young DearS girl wrapped in a blanket, and nothing else. The girl had collapsed in hunger, so Takeya had no choice but to bring her back to his apartment. That’s when she started calling him “Master”…and wouldn’t leave!
