30 Day Movie Challenge Day 2: The Last Movie You Watched

2 min read

FuryWith my increase in watching TV series these days, since there are so many good serialized dramas out there, my at home movie viewing has gone down a bit. I still do a lot when it comes to showing a host of films from years ago to introduce my kids to a range of films, but we’re in the midst of spending the next month or two working on the Twin Peaks Blu-ray set. So my movie viewing is largely done through actually going to the theater. Which, with a Movie Pass account, means I get to go a good bit.

October was a rough month for getting out to see films, but one I made sure to see was Fury. A lot of the motivation was a curiosity to see what writer/director David Ayer would do with a film of his own choosing and creation since it was announced earlier that he as going to tackle the Suicide Squad film for Warner Bros. With those comics and characters being a favorite of mine, I wanted to get a look at what Ayer would produce with a passion project.

And I was blown away in just about every regard. Fury captivated me with its style, intensity and overall sense of direction and atmosphere in a way few movies really achieve on the big screen, all without going with a huge bit of flash, pomp and sweeping orchestral movements. It was a surprisingly quiet film in a lot of ways but it packed an immense and tense punch throughout it. It’s definitely the kind of film that shows what the team behind it is capable of and it has me keenly interested in seeing what his career will produce overall after it. Having seen a great deal of war movies over the years of all types and nature, this one quickly ranks near the top.
