After its release earlier this year in theaters, Avex Pictures is now setting the home video release plans for the first of the new Initial D movies. That film is now set for a December 26th, 2014 release and it’s getting a Blu-ray only release. It’s getting two releases though as there’s a limited edition version priced at 7,344 yen and a regular edition at 5,378 yen.
The limited edition release does come with some good items as we get a mini script book that deals with the two part prequel, a license for Takuma and a booklet for the film in general. The main feature disc comes with a few extras as well with a partial look at one of the events for the film as well as a making of video, the new flash pieces and promotional videos.
The film was directed by Masamitsu Hidaka and Sanzigen and LIDEN FILMS based on the screenplay by Mayori Sekijima.
The manga, which began back in 1995, has had multiple anime adaptations over the years while the manga itself has done solidly and appealed to the region in which it takes place as well. The property even had a live action adaptation along the way.
Property concept: High school student Takumi Fujiwara works as a gas station attendant during the day and a delivery boy for his father’s tofu shop during late nights. Little does he know that his precise driving skills and his father’s modified Toyota Sprinter AE86 Trueno make him the best amateur road racer on Mt. Akina’s highway. Because of this, racing groups from all over the Gunma prefecture issue challenges to Takumi to see if he really has what it takes to be a road legend.
