Morena Baccarin Joins ‘Gotham’

2 min read

Morena BaccarinMorena Baccarin is making a return to the Fox network after being away for a few years since appearing in Firefly on the network. The actress, who has done a variety of roles from the rebooted V to her recent well received time on Homeland, is set to be a recurring character this season on Gotham with plans to be a season regular in the second by taking on the role of Dr. Leslie Thompkins. The character is one that has a long and storied history in the Batman universe, first appearing in Detective Comics #457 back in the mid 1970’s as created by Denny O’Neil and Dick Giordano. The character is a talented physician who was a friend of the Waynes and is intent on largely helping the poor and those in need within Gotham. That’s going to put her into working in the new Arkham Asylum that’s turning into a central point of the first season and will become more of a player in the second season. It’s also not going to be a surprise that she comes into contact with the Gordon character a lot, both through everyday work and because the two share a strong connection with young Bruce Wayne.

The character has previously appeared outside of comics with guest spots in Batman: The Animated Series where she was voiced by Diana Muldaur, and mentions in some of the animated films, video games and a novelization of Batman Begins.
