Twin PeaksThe folks at Showtime are definitely working to build more of their solid slate of original programming beyond showing movies and nothing will draw people to the network faster than a sequel to the 1990’s TV series Twin Peaks. The show, which had a full Blu-ray box set released this past summer, is being slotted for a 2016 premiere for the 25th anniversary of the end run of the series. It’s planned for a nine episode run written by David Lynch and Mark Frost with plans to answer many of the questions still lingering from the original series. And all nine episodes are set to be directed by David Lynch.

According to Deadline, Kyle MacLachlan is likely to return to the series and it’s expected a number of other actors that populated it, many long time collaborators in Lynch’s works, are expected to return as well.

Groundbreaking, genre-bending, stylish, moody and a little weird, Twin Peaks became a phenomenon when it premiered in April 1990, with the two-hour opener drawing mind-boggling 34.6 million viewers. The series, which is owned by Showtime parent CBS Corp., followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after Palmer is shockingly murdered. The town’s sheriff welcomed the help of FBI Agent Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the town’s secrets were gradually exposed.
