While I’ve kicked around in the anime world since beginning AnimeOnDVD.com back in 1998, when I started this site I did a 30 Days of Anime Challenge to try and re-introduce myself in a way, revisit what made me an anime fan and kick off something fun in terms of discussion. It was an interesting challenge to hit each day and a lot of it really made me think back to some of the things I had watched over the years while trying to really understand what made an impression.
My anime roots go back to the mid 1980’s when I got to see Robotech on TV. But predating that was my love of comic books, which was strong from the late 70’s through the early 90’s. I’ve dabbled in comics off and on since, but have made a more focused return in the last couple of years and more specifically this year in trying to get into a lot of varied trades and singles here and there, and a lot of accessibility through digital comics.
So I thought that one of the things to do going into the fall is similar to what I did back in 2011 with anime is to take the 30 Day Comic book Challenge. We’ll be kicking that off tomorrow and I hope that you’ll join in with us with your own experiences – manga fans should certainly join in as well since that’s simply comics in Japanese – as it should be a fun examination of the different aspects of being a fan of the illustrated world of storytelling.
