It’s time to head back to the classics a bit as some of the lesser known series are getting their Blu-ray upgrades at long last. The latest one to get announced is that of Madou King Granzort, a 41 episode series that ran between 1989 and 1981 that came from Sunrise and Atelier Musa. The series had Shuji Iuchi on board as director, scriptwriter and storyboard artist. Iuchi has a lot of titles to his credit, including directing a lot of Aura Battler Dunbine and being the creator and chief director fro Chou Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru.
The new box set, slated for a December 24th, 2014 release date priced at 43,200 yen, will include the full run of the series plus the two OVA series, which accounts for another five episodes total. The release will come with an audio commentary track, a reunion event to commemorate the 25th anniversary and other extras possibly to come.
Plot concept: In the future, the moon is a habitable place with atmosphere and gravity and also a famous tourist attraction. There are also stories about a “long ears” creature like rabbits on the moon who can use magic. Haruka Daichi heads off to the moon during a summer holiday alone because he likes to see the long ears creature by himself.
However, he get himself dragged into an acient conflict between two acient moon racess: the “long ears” race and Jado race. Jado race wanted to conquer the universe and resurrect ancient evil powers to seize control of the Earth. Now the “long ears” race and Daichi must seek three warriors who could use magic to release Mado King to fight Jado race and to release “long ears” race`s kingdom, Rabiluna, from Jado race.
