What can save a corrupt magical girl? Hope.
What They Say:
In every decade or hundreds of years, the dragon moves its body as if it tosses about unconsciously. The movement becomes the distortion and causes impurity. This “impurity” lavishes an evil on people. And now, there is a huge indication of a distortion. Gods foresaw the greatest harm would happen to Japan, divide own power and give it off as a messenger of God (“Shinshi”) in Japan to gather mediums, or “Magica” who can expel the “impurity”. With the magical weapon the power of Gods, “Magica” will fight to stop evils in Japan.”

Events took some interesting turns in the last couple of episodes with the multi-character arc as we so the corruption of a magical girl which has led to the fight that Konoe is involved in now. Keeping Azuki involved is a welcome change of pace as Konoe works to deal with what’s going on and Azuki helps to stop what she can when it comes to the destruction of the ley lines. It sets a large battle to be sure with the scale of corruption involved and just how much the ley line helps to power her. Rei has definitely been a fun character to watch, something more engaging than the magatsuhi that we’ve dealt with, as there’s a nice emotional connection and element there to work with. Of course, there are no real surprises here as redemption and hope are key t magical girls, so seeing Rei saved is expected, though well done.
In Summary:
With a hint at the larger battle yet to come, which makes sense since the next episode is the final episode, Magica Wars continues on with its best arc of the series. All the characters involved have been fun to watch and I really liked the working of the more human element mixed into it rather than just the supernatural beastie that they have to deal with. Konoe works well here as does Azuki as they push back and try to save Rei, but it’s Rei that once again steals the show, and rightly so.
