One of the series that we wish wasn’t quite so tied up in rights as it is for being adapted into other forms, Battle Angel Alita, aka Gunnm, is getting ready to move onto its next phase. The work comes from Yukito Kishiro who began the original series back in 1990 and has had several series and incarnations of it over the years, culminating in the most current series, Last Order, finishing up in Japan this past April.

Now, Kishiro is ready to go back into this world with a new series Gunnm: Kasei Senki, aka Battle Angel Alita: The Martian War Chronicles when we expect Kodansha Comics to bring it out later on. While we knew this was coming, it’s been quite since the previous work ended and having some firm news is welcome. The series is set to debut in the October 28th issue of Evening magazine.

Now, about a new anime adaptation sometime…

Plot concept: In the story, the cyborg “mechanical angel” Gally (Alita in English translation) goes to Mars to discover her roots and seek the truth about herself.
