CBS Snags ‘Supergirl’ Series Commitment

While we’ve got a lot of networks doing comics related material – and not all of it superheroes thankfully – CBS has been kind of the odd man out when it comes to the big networks. That’s changing now as they’ve made their move by making not just a pilot commitment but a series one for Supergirl. The production, which was talked about a few weeks ago, involves Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler setting it up. According to the initial reports, this is an even bigger deal than what Fox did with picking up Gotham for this season.

Unlike WBTV’s long-running Superman series Smallville, which focused on the superhero’s journey up to acquiring the powers and becoming Superman, Supergirl starts with Kara beginning to use her abilities.

Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

How this will square with everything else remains to be seen as there’s been an intentional plan to keep the TV and movie universes separate, but also now starting to keep certain TV universes separate as well.
