Anyone could have seen this coming after the success of Guardians of the Galaxy and it certainly makes a lot of sense. While I typically don’t do much with the rumors that come out of Latino Review, this one has a certain timeliness about it that makes sense. With Warner Bros. having slotted space for nine films recently and having made moves for the Shazam movie, it’s easy to see how they’d look for something galactic to work with that could appeal to an audience that’s set apart from the rest of the films they’re doing. Legion of Super-Heroes, a property that has been around since 1958 and was at one time a central piece of the Superman mythology before a whole lot of timeline changes occurred, is now being investigated for a potential feature film.

“According to sources, Warners is quietly sending out the DC comic book Legion Of Superheroes to screenwriters & their reps for takes. For non-industry folks, what that means is that screenwriters check out the comic book and come up for a movie idea involving the characters from that comic. Those writers then go to the studio to pitch their idea. The studio then hires the screenwriter they feel has the best idea or take for the film.” – El Mayimbe

While it’s expected that a good chunk of the dates announced have films planned for them, it’s also expected that a couple are open to be investigated in exactly the manner described to see what happens and what takes from Batman V Superman as well. Legion is a comic series that has always been something that I’ve seriously enjoyed, but it’s also hugely different from Guardians in a lot of ways, being more about the glimmering brightness and huge cast with an array of powers and worlds while Guardians is a bit more down in the muck and ragtag kind of group style. So while there are similarities, there are huge differences as well.

DC Wiki: The Legion of Super-Heroes is a 30th Century inter-galactic team of super-powered young adults. There have been several versions of the team in main continuity because of the constantly changing nature of the future, including the Reboot Legion and the Prime Legion.
