While spring 2014 anime series Knights of Sidonia has come and gone, the home video releases are moving right along in Japan and that means King Records is bringing out a new promotional video for the latest one. The series was scheduled for twelve episodes as there will be six volumes released for it. The DVD and Blu-ray releases began coming out on May 28th, 2014, which is a bit earlier than you usually see it as they wait until a series is about to end or just after that. The DVD releases are priced at 4,725 yen each while the Blu-ray releases are priced at 8,190 yen each.

The first releases through the official King Records e-shop site indicates that the first volume will come with the first two episode in both PCM stereo and PCM 5.1, as well as including a commentary track. No subtitles are included but the release will include a special booklet with material by the original creator.

Plot Concept: Outer space, the far future.

A lone seed ship, the Sidonia, plies the void, ten centuries since the obliteration of the solar system. The massive, nearly indestructible, yet barely sentient alien life forms that destroyed humanity’s home world continue to pose an existential threat.

Nagate Tanikaze has only known life in the vessel’s bowels deep below the sparkling strata where humans have achieved photosynthesis and new genders. Not long after he emerges from the Underground, however, the youth is bequeathed a treasured legacy by the spaceship’s coolheaded female captain.

Meticulously drawn, peppered with clipped humor, but also unusually attentive to plot and structure for the international cult favorite, Knights of Sidonia may be Tsutomu Nihei’s most accessible work to date even as it hits notes of tragic grandeur as a hopeless struggle for survival unfolds.
