Argevollen Episode 8
Susumu vs Richoften, Round 2: Fight!!

What They Say:
The National Federation of Ingelmia has declared war on the United Kingdom of Arandas in its conquest of expanding its borders. Susumu Tokimune is a new pilot for the Arandas army and during a mission he encounters an armored vehicle containing a robot called Argevollen as well as a young girl named Jamie Hazaford. After saving Jamie’s life, Susumu becomes the pilot for the Argevollen and uses it to battle against the Ingelmian forces.

Content: (please note that portions of this review may contain spoilers):
Last week’s cliffhanger with Captain Samonji arriving at the site of Susumu’s sister’s last appearance stirs up some old memories for him as he recalls his time with her there as well as the “Tragedy of Argent Point” that also occurred in the area though the exact connection between the two is unknown. Sadly though, he doesn’t give his exact reasons behind being at the site so the confrontation between him and Susumu seems as though it’ll be put off for a while longer. In the meantime, Richoften and some other Ingelmian soldiers begin to put their plan into motion for a surprise attack on Arandas, assuming that Susumu’s group won’t catch on.

Of course it doesn’t take too long for them to catch on and battle quickly breaks out between both sides. The show has generally skipped around major mecha battles up until this point but the fight here between Susumu and Richoften is pretty well done and provides some pretty solid action. Though Richoften still believes the Argevollen’s power is compensating for Susumu’s lack of skill, Susumu slowly improves throughout the fight and manages to hold his own. When Susumu finally proves to be too much for him, the other Ingelmian soldiers sacrifice themselves to help Richoften escape and he sets on getting revenge

After the battle ends, Susumu decides it’s best to focus on the present and leave the mystery behind his sister’s death alone for the time being since it’s been weighing on his mind too much. Captain Samonji on the other hand still seems to be stuck worrying over the past. The two haven’t had their confrontation over it just yet, but with the truth behind Susumu’s sister still up in the air, it’s getting closer and closer.

In Summary:
This week’s episode started off a bit slower than expected given last week’s cliffhanger but things are still movingly along decently enough, and the series finally delivering on a good mecha battle, mostly makes up for how slow the first half of the episode was. Hopefully next week’s episode will go back to moving things further along though.

Overall: B
