FUNimation Adds ‘Lucky Star’ Anime Series, OVA Rights

FUNimation has tackled another Bandai Entertainment title done with Kadokawa several years ago with the pickup of Lucky Star. They’ve grabbed both the TV series and the OVA and have no listed any planned dates for it or formats. The show originally ran in 2007 and started off as series of elaborate releases from Bandai and Kadokawa that eventually slimmed down a lot over time as sales weren’t as strong as they had thought they would be. The Japanese releases are also a bit tricky in that the Blu-ray releases there are upscales, which has us wondering if FUNimation will be releasing it in that format. With previous upscales, of which there have been almost none lately, they do list that they are that and not native HD releases.

Plot concept: Having fun in school, doing homework together, cooking and eating, playing videogames, watching anime. All those little things make up the daily life of the anime—and chocolate-loving—Izumi Konata and her friends. Sometimes relaxing but more than often simply funny!
