Kazue Kato’s One-Shot ‘Astronerd’ Manga Gets Shonen Jump Distribution

1 min read

AstronerdWhile one-shot releases from manga creators in Japan aren’t rare, they’re not something we see a lot of in general since they tend to focus on the big properties that are making them money. Kazue Kato of Blue Exorcist fame has one such short called Astronerd and her work is set to appear in the Viz Media digital edition of Weekly Shonen Jump with the August 11th issue as announced by the publisher this week.

Kato’s primary work of Blue Exorcist continues to be published since its 2009 debut as twelve volumes have been released in Japan so far, which Viz Media is releasing in North America. Viz Media has published eleven volumes so far with the twelfth scheduled for a November 4th, 2014 release. Kato also has a spinoff series from Blue Exorcist with Salaryman Exorcist: The Sorrows of Yukio Okumura, a title that began in the fall of 2013. It’s not currently licensed outside of Japan. Kato is writing it while Minoru Sasaki is illustrating it.

Plot concept: A special one-shot about the impending doom of humanity and their only remaining hope —a nerd!
