Pony Canyon is looking to explor emore of the priced down compact type releases for their market and one of those titles is Kanon. The twenty-four episode series is getting a two disc Blu-ray release in limited edition form on October 1st, 2014. The Blu-ray edition is priced at 19,980 and a DVD edition is also being released for 9,720 yen. The show is being done without any additional language tracks or subtitles that might make it appealing for overseas audiences. Each disc will have twelve episodes, which is about on par with what Sentai Filmworks has done recently with a lot of their subtitled-only releases with mixed results.
The release comes with no extras and there are now limited edition pack-in items either.
FUNimation last released their version of the show in 2010 with a S.A.V.E. DVD version. There has been no North American Blu-ray release of this series.
Plot concept: Yuichi hasn’t seen his cousin Nayuki in years. Now that he’s back, all knowledge of ever visiting has vanished. He tries to adjust to the vaguely familiar surroundings, but the gaps in his memory haunt him as time grows short. The pieces of the puzzle have appeared – an eerily silent beauty with blazing tresses, the mysterious girl with the winged backpack, and the sword-wielding demon slayer – but it’s up to Yuichi to discover how they fit together.
