While Barakamon began its broadcast in Japan back on July 5th, the announced simulcast pickup by FUNimation the same day during Anime Expo hasn’t materialized with an actual simulcast yet. FUNimation has been quiet on it as we expect that they were going through finalized agreements, set up and other issues, but t’s been a few weeks and the company provided a little bit of news today.
We’re extremely sorry for the delay in Barakamon & we appreciate your patience. Good news! We’ll be able to give you an update on Monday!

Based on what they’re saying, we expect that the series will be simulcast and that good news is just that. With luck, it’ll be a catch-up run of a few episodes and then going forward from there starting next week.
Masaki Tachibana directed the series based on the scripts by Pierre Sugiura with character designs by Majiro. The series stars Daisuke Ono, Junichi Suwabe, Yuuki Kaji, Koki Uchiyama, Nozomi Furuki, Rumi Ohkubo, Rina Endou, Seiya Hirata, Megumi Han, Tanuki Sugino and Fumihiko Tachiki. Kinema Citrus will be handling the animation for the production.
The manga series began in 2009 by Satsuki Yoshino and released its eighth installment last fall in compiled form. Yen Press picked up the series for distribution here earlier this year as well. Satsuki Yoshino has had a few other series running prior to this one with a handful of anthology books and short stories as well as the five volume release of Princess of Mana.
