Funimation made a splash today with the announcement of the streaming and home video rights for Free -Eternal Summer-, the second season of the hit 2013 series from Kyoto Animation, Free – Iwatobi Swim Club. The first episode premiers this Wednesday, July 2, at 11:30 AM Eastern Time on Funimation.com, with episodes following every Wednesday at the same time. The cast is reunited, and Yoshimasa Hosoya (Robotics;Notes, Haikyu!!) joins in as newcomer Sosuke Yamazaki, childhood friend of Rin.
Details on plans for the home video release were not made at this time. And no word yet on whether the first season has also been acquired for home video.
Plot Concept: The boys of summer are back! Haru, Makoto, Nagisa, Rei, and Rin are reunited for a second season in Free! -Eternal Summer-. After the last swim meet, the bonds of friendship have only gotten stronger, and with each passing day these boys continue to grow. This summer brings new rivals and new challenges.
