Welcome back to Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of the wonderful and often wacky world of a galaxy far, far away.
In many places of the world, summer is lurching into full swing. Here in Pennsylvania, we had a crazy winter followed by a treacherously rainy spring. All of that combined to give us a slightly longer school year than normal, and the kids are ready to burst. I said goodbye to my students yesterday, and watched the smiles grow on my own sons’ faces. It’s summer-time. For those lucky enough to still be children, that means a few months of obligation-free fun. For the adults in their lives, that means scrambling to arrange child care, helping the kids find something entertaining to do, and managing countless sibling squabbles.
How can you add a little Star Wars flair into your padawan’s summer (or yours)? Let’s take a little stroll…
Sunglasses are cool. The Original Trilogy is cool. Mix the two together and you have really sweet shades that will make any fan smile. The Custom Sunglass Shop Etsy site offers the option to request other customized styles, so if you or your offspring like Clone Wars or the Prequel trilogy, you could request those designs instead.
Ice pops are another great way to be cool – this time literally. No one really enjoys having frozen fingertips, though. Let your inner Jedi or Sith burst free and join your youngling in a little duel before they melt. These felt lightsaber cozies are from the Handcrafting Harmony Etsy shop.
The tiniest younglings look adorable in hooded towels, but adding Vader may help them get the respect they so desperately crave. Remember, Anakin’s fall was at least partly due to his burning desire for recognition. Don’t make the same mistake! This towel is from amyliza1977 on Etsy.
Is your Padawan too large for hooded towels? Do YOU want a new towel for the times you can sneak away to the pool or beach? Thinkgeek has you covered, too.
A little something for you – or the older fans in your home. If you are an 80s kid like me, you’ll really appreciate the Flashdance feel of the sleeves. This one is from Moonbot Studios.
What’s summer without a nice bookstack? Powells currently has a sale on Star Wars books for kids. Treat yourself and your family to some of the Origami Yoda series, LEGO books, or other Star Wars crafting titles.
How can you keep the younglings from fighting to the death? I really can’t help you much with that one. Maybe we can threaten to send them to Tatooine or Dagobah if they don’t behave?
Until next week – may the Force be with you!
