Anime Limited has added another acquisition to their catalog that will be coming out in the future with Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya. The series, which has been acquired by Sentai Filmworks in North America where it’s getting a bilingual and dual format release this summer, is a fun spinoff property of the Fate/Zero universe. Anime Limited doesn’t have a specific time frame for the release yet but they have confirmed the acquisition and that it is for just the first season and not the second season as well. Interestingly, they note that the property was an experimental one as it was a bundled license with Blood Lad, which was announced previously. Bundled licenses were something that we used to hear about a lot during the US boom years, though never formally or officially, and it’s largely been said that that practice had ended following the economic downturn and the changes in licensing structures. To see it mentioned again is interesting, especially since it deals with two current properties and not a mix of old and new.
Plot concept: Illyasviel von Einzbern’s normal life is suddenly halted by the Kaleidostick Ruby, a magical wand on the run from her former master, who instantly decides that little Illya has all the right stuff to become the next great magical girl. However, Ruby’s previous owner Rin Tohsaka isn’t exactly thrilled to be de-wanded, especially since she’s just accepted an assignment to collect the seven legendary Class Cards. It seems the only solution is for Illya to take up the task and learn the ropes under Rin’s supervision. Meanwhile, a girl named Miyu has been chosen by the Kaleidostick Sapphire as HER new master, much to the irritation of Sapphire’s previous master, Rin’s arch rival Luviagelita Edelfelt!
