Based on the novel by Lois Lowry that came out in 1993, the feature film adaption of The Giver has gotten its second trailer, which is the first full length piece for it. The film definitely sets its own path here considering it could be easily compared to other films by the virtue of being a young adult novel, and that’s going to help it to really make it stand out in a way with many who would write it off since a good chunk of it will be done in “black and white”.
Directed by Phillip Noyce, the film stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgård, Katie Holmes, Odeya Rush, Taylor Swift. It’s set to debut on August 15th, 2014.
Plot concept: The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
