With the first feature doing well when that came out back in 2011, Buddha 2 landed this past February and even got the nod from the Dalai Lama for broadcast which elevated its status among many. The feature has come and gone in Japan and a third feature is scheduled for 2015, but first Toei has to get this one into the hands of people that want to own a copy. The two hour feature is getting a release on August 8th, 2014 priced at 6,156 yen for the Blu-ray and 5,176 yen for the DVD. A few episodes are planned but at the moment the only one fully schedued are some TV spots and announcement pieces. Some other pieces are planned to include the Dalai Lama’s connection to it prior to the original theatrical release and more.
Original concept: In ancient India, the lives of the re plagued by drought, famine, constant warfare and the injustices of the strict caste system. The intertwining lives of many unhappy souls are drawn together by the birth of the young prince Siddhartha, who embarks on a spiritual journey, becomes Buddha, “the Enlightened One,” and attempts to bring about a spiritual rebirth of the people in this desperate age.
