While we’ve seen a few shots of various boxes of pieces of equipment and props for the film in a couple of locations over the past weeks that have lead to endless speculation, principal photography has finally begun for Star Wars: Episode VII. The reveal came today as J.J. Abrams production company, Bad Robot, tweeted an image of the clapboard as they go forward with filming. It’s naturally not anything to truly get excited about, but now that we have the casting down, dates established and the bigger picture of how the Star Wars universe will work as the Expanded Universe material has been set as Legacy works, there will likely be a whole lot of material slipping out in the coming weeks and months that will add more teases and tantalization. Consider this the opening of the gates to what will come.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. It’s set to debut on December 18th, 2015.
